Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday reviewed Dussehra preparedness at Patna's Gandhi Maidan where he instructed district officials to ensure utmost convenience for the visitors along with impeccable security arrangement to avoid any untoward incident.

After paying visits to a number of Puja Pandals in the state capital, the Chief Minister arrived at the Gandhi Maidan where more than 5 lakh people are expected to gather on Saturday evening to watch effigies of demon king Ravan and his two brothers Kumbhkaran and Meghnad burn to mark the end of the 10-day festival of Durga Puja.

With the memory of nearly three dozen people, mostly women and children, perish in a stampede just minutes after the 'slaying' of Ravan and his brothers in 2014 still fresh in many people's mind, Kumar particularly emphasized the need for the safety of the visitors so as not to repeat the tragedy that still remains one of the worst man-made disasters to take place at the sprawling Gandhi Maidan.

The Chief Minister instructed the officials to pay extra attention during the end of the show when the crowd is in a rush to get out of the maidan. He also emphasized the need for additional lighting to ensure visibility was not hampered for any occasion.

Chief Secretary Chanchal Kumar, District Magistrate Sanjay Agrawal, Divisional Commissioner Anand Kishore, and the CM's personal secretary Manish Verma were among many who were present on the occasion.
