The Chief Minister further said that plans for a number of flyovers and pedestrian bridges were in the pipeline with all works being done keeping next 15 years in mind.
"Even this bridge has no pillar near Patna Junction so when work on the proposed metro rail begins, it will be easier to go through this place without having to dismantle a section of the bridge," he said.
Speaking of the metro train, an idea being floated since the NDA first came into power Bihar in 2005, Kumar said that his administration was sending the new proposal to the Center and work would begin on it as soon as the Central government gives its nod to begin construction.
This was the first occasion in a long time when BJP leader and MP Shatrughan Sinha made a public appearance with Nitish Kumar or any of the BJP leaders in the Nitish cabinet.
While Sinha was seen chatting with the Chief Minister, he did not make any official statement on the occasion.
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, in his address, said that the government had allocated Rs. 14,286 crore on road and bridge construction alone in Bihar in the coming year compared to Rs. 50 crore in 1990 when he became a legislator for the first time.
Modi further said that the Central government had already given the green signal on the proposed bridge over the Ganges running parallel to the existing Gandhi Setu at the cost of Rs. 5000 crore. Another Rs. 1300 crore was allocated for the repair and renovation of the existing bridge to be completed by 2020, he said.
Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav said that the Mithapur flyover would be completed and become operational in the coming year.
BJP legislators Nitin Navin, Sanjiv Chaurasia, and Arun Kumar Sinha were also present at today's event.
