Patna: Student activists representing nearly a dozen political outfits on early Sunday morning clashed with each other at the Patna University campus following a rumor of booth-capturing during the Students' Union election that spelt doom for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and leftist candidates while proving to be a bonanza for the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) candidates running for various union posts.

The incident occurred around 1:30 am, hours after poll results were announced, when someone spread rumor of booth being captured in Vanijya Mahavidyalaya and bogus votes being cast by a group representing a certain candidate.

In a matter of minutes, the college campus turned into a battlefield as activists representing various political parties began throwing stones and bricks at other groups while also beating up two boys with canes, chappals, and belts.

Students accused the Principal of Vanijya Mahavidyalaya of rigging the election in favor of a certain candidate. Chanting anti-principal slogans, they demanded a re-poll and dismissal of the Vanijya Mahavidyalaya Principal.

Seeing the situation getting worse by the minute, university officials summoned police that arrived within 15 minutes and brought the situation under control after a few rounds of firing in the air and a minor lathi-charge.

Bhavesh Mishra, SDO, denied booth having been captured and ordered an enquiry to identify and arrest the miscreants.
