Patna: Three days after Jitan Ram Manjhi, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) President, walked out of the NDA to return to Lalu's fold, one of his ardent supporters and former Bihar Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh declared the real HAM was still with the NDA because Manjhi alone did not make or break the party.
Speaking at a press conference in Patna on Sunday, Singh said that despite being on good terms with Nitish Kumar, he went along with Manjhi to create a new party that came to be known as Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM). He, however, maintained it was Manjhi who abandoned HAM that still is a part of the NDA.
"It was Manjhi's personal decision to join hands with Lalu Prasad Yadav against whom we all fought to restore law and order in Bihar. Under no circumstances we would go back to him. The real HAM is still very much with the NDA even though Manjhi has chosen to go along with the RJD. Not even a single party leader or worker, however, has gone with Manjhi," the former minister said.
Accusing Manjhi of treating HAM as his personal property, the former minister said that he never consulted with any party member about his decision to forge go to the Grand Alliance.
"We were to hold a rally in Gandhi Maidan on April 8 to decide whether to continue to support the NDA or join hands with Lalu Prasad Yadav but he did not wait for it and instead unilaterally decided to accept Tej Pratap Yadav as his new leader," he said adding the only reason Manjhi went to the Grand Alliance was so he could send his sons to the Rajya Sabha.
"It is all about him and his sons," he said.
Talking about the future of the HAM, Singh said that the party would be convening a meeting of the functionaries between March 15 and 20 to select a new national president which would be announced within the next two weeks.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
