Patna: Former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, at a press conference in Patna on Saturday, said that his party, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), would hold a 'Gareeb Mahasammelan' tomorrow at Patna's Gandhi Maidan that would also be attended by the top leaders of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress Party.

Talking to the reporters, Manjhi, who recently broke his ties with the NDA to join hands with the RJD, said that the convention aims to highlight the needs of the poor and not just backwards and Dalits, hence the name 'Gareeb Mahasammelan', or the Grand Convention of the Poor.

Though RJD chief will not be able to attend the event on account of his being incarcerated in a hospital room-turned-prison-cell in Delhi, his wife and former Chief Minister of Bihar Rabri Devi, their two sons Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejaswi Yadav have already confirmed their intent to attend the program.

Congress leaders, however, were not certain if they would be able to join Manjhi at Gandhi Maidan saying they would be busy welcoming Shakti Singh Gohil, the new Congress in-charge of Bihar, who arrives in Patna on Saturday.

Manjhi's supporters Brishan Patel, Danish Rizwan, and Anamika Paswan were among many who were present at the press conference.
