Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) first family celebrated the 71st birthday of party President Lalu Prasad Yadav at 5 Deshratna Marg, the official residence of Lalu and Rabri Devi's youngest son and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav, where dozens of family members, party leaders, and well-wishers gathered around a 71-pound green cake to signify the age of the party chief and the color of the party flag.
As reported, Yadav, who is out on a six-week provisional bail from a Ranchi jail, is barred from making public appearance or appear before the media for the entire period he is on furlough.
The program was also used to dispel any rumor of rift between the two brothers – Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejaswi Yadav – after the former aired his dirty laundry in public a couple of days ago going on a rant about how he was marginalized within his own party and how his younger brother was constantly stealing the spotlight.
"There is absolutely no rift between us. He is my younger brother and it is my duty to protect him even if I have to give my life for that," Tej Pratap Yadav said.
To make absolutely sure that there was nothing but love in the air, the two brothers fed cake to each other while Rabri Devi, like a doting mother, also fed cakes to her two sons simultaneously.
Tej Pratap Yadav, who likes to depict himself as the incarnation of Lord Krishna, then drove his brother to his mother's residence saying his car was his chariot and his brother was Arjun – a reference to Mahabharat where Lord Krishna steers the chariot carrying Arjun, one of the five Pandava brothers, during the battle with the Kauravas in the Indian mythology.
"I will not rest until I put my brother on the throne of Hastinapur", the former Health Minister who recently married to the daughter of senior RJD leader Chandrika Rai, said in reference to the mythical kingdom of the Kurus.
Rabri Devi also denied any fissure between her two sons saying everything was well within the party and people should not try to create controversies based on lies and rumors.
Meanwhile, leaders, cutting across party lines, wished happy birthday to the RJD President prominent among those included Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Sharad Yadav, Upendra Kushwaha, Ashok Gehlot, Praful Patel, and Jitan Ram Manjhi.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
