Patna: Following the withdrawal of Dr. Barun Kumar as the Janata Dal – U candidate from Sitamarhi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sunil Kumar Pintu resigned from his party and joined the JD-U that promptly rewarded him as the replacement of Dr. Kumar.

As reported, Dr. Kumar, expressing personal reasons and political pressures from many quarters, opted to drop out of the race while also resigning from the party.

Pintu, a former Bihar Tourism Minister, had lost the 2015 state Assembly elections to a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate.

At a press conference in Patna, JD-U leaders Lallan Singh and others welcomed Pintu in the party saying his presence would play an important role in the coming election.

Pintu later met with Nitish Kumar to seek his blessings.

Sitamarhi goes to poll in the fifth phase of the seven-phased election on May 6.
