Patna: First time since switching party from BJP to Congress, former film star and politician Shatrughan Sinha arrived at Patna Airport on Friday amid warm welcome and chant of ‘Shatrughan Sinha Zindabad’ by his supporters and Congress leaders.
Accompanied by Bihar Congress President Madan Mohan Jha, Sinha, from the airport, arrived at the Congress Bihar headquarters at Sadaqat Ashram in Kurji Area where he was greeted with garlands and sweets by a number of senior party leaders.
Later in the day, the former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader who switched to Congress just a few days ago after his old party dropped him as a Lok Sabha candidate and instead named another Patna’ite and senior BJP minister Ravi Shankar Prasad from Patna Saheb seat, visited the home of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and the leader of the opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejaswi Yadav Yadav.
Talking to the reporters, Sinha said that this was just a courtesy visit since he was an old friend of Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members.
“Though I wanted to join the RJD, I switched to Congress at the advice of Shri Lalu ji who said that I should contest from my old seat of Patna Saheb and since that seat belonged to the Congress, I followed Laluji’s advice. I had always said that no matter what the situation may be, I was not contesting Lok Sabha election from anywhere but Patna Saheb,” the Congress leader said.
On his former party-mate and now the rival Ravi Shankar Prasad, Sinha said that the union minister came from a great family and was his friend for a long time.
“Ravi Shankar is my friend and our fight will also be friendly,” he said.
The former Bollywood villain-turned-hero, while saying he would actively campaign for other Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) candidates, contrary to some reports in the media, his daughter and successful film star Sonakshi Sinha will not take part in the campaign.
Sinha also ruled out campaigning for him by other film stars saying he did not need their help as the people of Patna themselves were much bigger stars than any Bollywood star.
“I did not ask any star to campaign for me in the 2014 elections and I won’t do it so in this year’s election either. The fact is, some of the big names in my own party did not campaign for me in the last election and some even conspired to damage my candidacy,” the man known as ‘Bihari Babu’ said.
While it is true that Sinha did not ask any film star to stump for him in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he did get some help from his friends in the Bollywood, including Hema Malini, also a BJP MP, who campaigned for him in the 2009 elections.
“I have full faith in the people of Patna who will bless me so I emerge victorious in this election with record-breaking margin,” he said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
