Patna: Former Manjhi loyalist Mahachandra Prasad, after being denied a Lok Sabha ticket, on Saturday, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with former Congress state general secretary and spokesperson Vinod Sharma in the presence of BJP Bihar in-charge of the elections Bhupendra Yadav who flew from Delhi to Patna on a chartered plane just for this event.

After welcoming the new members of the party and inducting them into the BJP, Yadav flew back to Delhi from the same chartered plane.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey were among those present on the occasion.

Accusing former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi of selling party tickets to top bidders, Mahachandra Singh said that if he had Rs. 5 crore in cash, he would also have been able to secure a HAM ticket for himself.

“The Grand Alliance has been actively seeking highest bidders for a ticket of their choice. I was the natural choice for the Maharajganj seat but Manjhi gave out tickets to those who were willing to pay the going price. Even the decision to join the Mahagathbandhan was taken unilaterally by Manjhi without ever consulting those who were the founder members of the party. All those who helped him for the party have already left him and I was also forced to leave the party,” Singh said.

Former Congress leader Vinod Sharma also took shots at his former party saying Congress was going through a bad phase as it did not care about the people or the country and had been taken over by those who were desperate to grab power at any cost.

“While the entire country was praising the Indian Air Force for the air strike on Pakistani terror camps, Congress was singing its own tune to undermine the whole exercise. I even wrote a letter to Rahul Gandhi on this subject but that fell on deaf ears,” Sharma said.

Modi, speaking on the occasion, said that the NDA wave was sweeping the nation and this year’s winning margin would be even bigger than the results of the 2014 parliamentary polls.

“Those who doubt me should just wait for the announcement of results on May 23rd,” Modi said.
