Patna: While Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rabri Devi was saying there was a crack in the NDA in Bihar, her own party leader and a Lalu loyalist Ali Ashraf Fatmi announced his decision to file his nomination as an independent candidate from Madhubani since his party has thus far ignored him as a viable candidate.

At a press conference in Patna on Saturday, the former Central Minister said that he would file his nomination paper as an independent candidate from Madhubani on April 18 though he will wait for the RJD’s response till April 17.

“If I don’t hear from them by April 17, I’ll file my papers on the 18th,” he said.

Further elaborating his dismay over his party’s choice of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, Fatmi said that those who had earlier tried to break the party into two by collecting signatures of 13 legislators were given party tickets while an old party soldier like himself, he was ignored at the behest of some members of the party.

Fatmi was clearly talking about party leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui who had unsuccessfully tried to become the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar when Lalu Prasad Yadav was sent to jail for the first time in the ‘90s that led to the installation of Rabri Devi as the Chief Minister of Bihar.

“I am still hopeful that the party leadership will change its mind and give me the ticket from Madhubani but if it did not do so by April 17, I will file my nomination the next day as an independent. One way or another, my name would be in the ballot list,” he said.
