Patna: Hundreds of thousands of people in Patna on Thursday turned up to see the political road-show of Congress president Rahul Gandhi who was in the state capital to stump for Shatrughan Sinha, the Congress candidate from Patna Saheb where he is pitted against his former colleague and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The procession began promptly at 6:00 pm from Moinul Haque Stadium in Rajendra Nagar with Rahul Gandhi, candidate Shatrughan Sinha, his wife and Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate from Lucknow Poonam Sinha, Subodhkant Sahay, Madan Mohan Jha, Shakti Sinh Gohil, Tariq Anwar, Premchand Mishra and other state Congress leaders perched on the top of a truck decked with flowers and Congress paraphernalia.

Leading the show were Sinha's two sons – Luv and Kush – who stood in their own truck paving way for their father's vehicle.

The procession moved slowly towards the Premchand Rangshala where Rahul Gandhi briefly stepped out of the truck and paid floral tribute at the statue of the famous writer before getting back in the truck.

The truck crawled towards Nala Road and Kadam Kuan where Shatrughan Sinha grew up in his younger days before leaving to attain stardom for Mumbai.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejaswi Yadav, whose vehicle was reportedly caught in the traffic, joined the Rahul Gandhi and Shatrughan Sinha near Premchand Rangshala after he ditched his vehicle and sprinted towards Sinha's truck amid large security arrangement.

At Nala Road, people were lined up on both sides of the streets to look at the Gandhi-Sinha duo. Nearly all rooftops were packed with people who threw flowers and flower petals at the motorcade below. Both Rahul Gandhi and Shatrughan Sinha shook hands with their fans and supporters as the show came to an end at the Nala Road-Kadam Kuan intersection.

Gandhi asked people of Patna to vote for Sinha and slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of lying to the people of Bihar.

Talking to shop-owners on Nala Road, Gandhi said if voted into power, he would do away with the 'Gabbar Singh Tax' (GST), that had been proven extremely destructive to the small business owners.

Meanwhile, Shatrughan Sinha, taking a shot at the BJP national president Amit Shah who had recently said that the Patna'ites will cut him to size (aukat dikha denge), said that today, with the help of the good people of Patna, he actually showed what his 'aukat' was.

As reported before, Shah, known for his in-your-face attitude, had held a road-show of his own in Kadam Kuan a few days ago in a deliberate move to provoke the ire of Sinha and his supporters.

Tejaswi Yadav, asking for support for Sinha, said that the film star-turned-politician was a long-time friend of his father Lalu Prasad Yadav and had stuck with his family through all the trials and turbulence his family had gone through in the hands of Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
