Patna: Union Minister and MP from Patna Saheb Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday hosted a group of Muslim women at his residence who had come to congratulate the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader for passing Triple Talaq bill in the Parliament.
"It was my pleasure to meet the women of Bihar who are, after the passing of the Triple Talaq bill by the Modi administration, feeling empowered and liberated. When I came to Patna, they expressed their desire to meet me so I invited them to my home in Patna" the minister said.
Nearly two dozen or so Muslim women at Prasad's home told the reporters that the Triple Talaq bill was historical as it got rid of an archaic practice that had no place in the 21st century society.
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing and passing the Triple Talaq bill, the women said they felt justice was done to the Muslim wives who lived under constant fear of being divorced by their husbands on some flimsy grounds.
Prasad said the bill was in the interest of humanity and justice to the victims of such quick divorces in the Muslim community of India.
