Patna: Communist Party of India-ML general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, at a press conference in Patna on Wednesday, slammed the Narendra Modi government on Article 370 and Triple Talaq Bill saying the administration's approach to these issues were very disconcerting and could spell trouble for the nation.

"If they wanted to scrap Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir, they could have done it the way it is outlined in the Indian constitution. Instead, they chose to abuse their power and scrapped it unilaterally without going for an all-party debate on the issue. The right way of doing so was through the J&K Assembly. Today, the situation is quite pathetic in Kashmir but the government is hiding the truth from the press and the public," he said.

The CPI-ML leader further said that the Modi government, by making amendments in the NIA law, was empowering itself to put anyone in jail for two years, confiscate properties, and denying basic human rights by making false accusations of terrorism in the Kashmir region.

Bhattacharya also took the NDA government to task on the issue of Triple Talaq saying by declaring Triple Talaq an act of crime, the government had sent a dangerous signal to the minority community stating they were not safe under this administration.

On the issue of Right to Information (RTI), the leftist leader said that just when the democracy was making a positive move, the Modi government threw the law in the garbage bin thus taking away freedom to information from the ordinary people's hand.

CPI-ML state secretary Kunal and member of the politburo Dhirendra Jha and Raja Ram Singh were also present at the press conference.
