Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday flagged off the so-called 'Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Rath' that is intended to spread awareness about various government projects undertaken by the Micro Water Resources Department and Bihar Underground Water Development Mission to highlight the importance of smart use of water and its preservation.

The 'raths' that are, in fact, trucks with temporary covers to accommodate television screens, DVD players, and sound systems will be playing government-produced propaganda films that focus on smart use of water for human consumption and agricultural purposes in an attempt to maximize the existing water resources of the state.

Bihar, that is considered a 'water-rich' state, is also known for its annual flood and drought that the government has yet to find a solution of. These issues are not covered in the Nitish Kumar's propaganda films.

The Chief Minister earlier arrived at the event in his electric car. Others present on the occasion included Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar, Development Commissioner Subhash Sharma, Micro Water Resources Secretary K K Pathak, Chief Minister's Chief Secretary Chanchal Kumar, Patna District Magistrate (DM) Kumar Ravi and a number of other senior bureaucrats.
