Patna: Police in Patna on Wednesday resorted to lathi-charge on contractual workers of the Land Reform Bank outside its office on Buddha Marg after some of the protestors engaged with police by pelting stones at them.

As reported, hundreds of Land Reform Bank workers blocked the Buddha Marg chanting slogans to demand for a raise in their wages. Some even threw stones and bricks at the office at which time the bank called for police protection.

When some bank officials tried to talk to the union leaders, they were either shouted out or lightly roughed up by the protestors.

The police then chased the mob with batons during which at least four men were slightly injured.

A representative of the protestors said that the bank had recently amended the contract agreement between the bank and the workers that was no longer tenable to the them.

"Those who protested against these new rules were fired. We want a raise in our wages and also demand reinstatement of the fired employees with full back pay," said a union leader.
