Patna: Police in Patna on Friday arrested three youths from Gardanibagh area in connection with the kidnapping-murder of 20-year old Satyam Kumar who went missing on the night of August 27.

The 20-year old victim's body was later recovered stuffed in a steel trunk at the banks of Ganga near Fatuha on August 29.

Speaking at a press conference in Patna on Friday, Superintendent of Police (SP) – Central Kantesh Kumar Mishra said that the breakthrough in the case came after police traced the ransom calls to a particular and the criminal's movement after the crime was committed.

According to the police, Satyam, whose father had bought him a new car for him, went to visit his maternal cousin Rajeev at his rented apartment in Rajeev Nagar in Patna on the evening of August 27. There, Rajeev, and some of his friends, killed Satyam, stuffed his body in a steel trunk and dropped it in the Ganga near Lakhisarai.

After that, Rajeev called the victim's family and demanded a ransom of Rs. 30 lakh. On August 28, Rajeev himself lodged a case of missing person with the Rajeev Nagar police station stating he feared for the life of his cousin who was kidnapped for ransom.

A special team of the police then traced the ransom call to one of the friends of Rajeev that led to the arrest of three men identified as Navlesh Kumar and Aditya Kumar.

Police also recovered the cell phone and the SIM card that nailed the three to the crime. At least two more arrests are expected to be made in the case, police said.
