Police Jawans Injured as Tree Falls on their Tent

Patna: At least nine police constables were reportedly hurt when a big tree fell on a tent in the Patna Police Line premise on late Tuesday night requiring them to seek medical attention.

As reported, because of heavy wind and torrential rain on Tuesday night, a tree said to be more than 70-year old, got uprooted and fell on the tent below while also landing part of it on a police barrack and a quarter used for storing guns and ammunitions.

Among the injured were one sub-inspector, one havildar, six jawans in training, and two Home Guard jawans. They all were taken to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment.

Injured jawans were identified as Manzar Imam, Ali Hasan Khan, B P Mandal, Satish Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Anmol Kumar, Rozazuddin, Kailash Mandal, and Devendra Singh.

Senior police officials including Patna DM Kumar Ravi and SSP Garima Malik were seen reviewing the damage caused by the storm.

Statewide, at least 18 people were reported killed due to lightning. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh each to the relatives of the victims.
