Patna: Continuing the tradition of laying foundation stones of 'super-specialty' hospitals and 'world-class' educational institutions in Bihar, a major hallmark of his governing style for the past 14 years, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Munger on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of what is being touted as the first 'Forestry College' of the state.

To be built at the cost of Rs. 105 crore, this new college and research institute will offer courses in climate science that has been necessitated by the current climate concerns related to global warming and other environmental issues," the Chief Minister said in his speech at the Polo Ground in Munger.

Touting his latest crusade against climate change promoted as the 'Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali', a rebranded scheme previously billed as 'Hariyali Mission' by his administration, Kumar said that under the new plan, facility to harvest rain water would be put in place and repair of crumbling well and ponds would be put on the front burner.

"Like the Yoga School of Munger, this Forestry College and Research Institute would attract people from all over the world that would also help local tourism," he said.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a government engineering college to be built in Munger at the cost of Rs. 80 crore.

Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, MP from Munger Lallan Singh, Building Construction Minister Ashok Chowdhary, Science and Technology Minister Jai Kumar Singh, Rural Works Minister Shailesh Kumar and other members of the cabinet were also present on the occasion.
