Patna: Bihar Governor Phagu Chauhan, at a simple ceremony at the Raj Bhawan in Patna on Monday, administered the oath of office to Justice Sanjay Karol as the new Chief Justice of Patna High Court.
Those present on the occasion included Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Bihar Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chowdhary, Bihar Legislative Council Chairperson Haroon Rashid, ministers Mangal Pandey, Shyam Rajak, Ashok Kumar Chowdhary, Vinod Narayan Jha, Krishna Nandan Verma, Narendra Narayan Yadav, Shrawan Kumar, Sanjay Jha, the family members of Justice Karol, along with a number of dignitaries.
Prior to coming to Patna, Justice Karol was Chief Justice of Tripura High Court.
The incoming Chief Justice succeeds A P Shahi who was transferred to the Madras High Court.
Justice Karol, a native of Himachal Pradesh, was born on August 23, 1961 in Shimla. He began his law practice in 1986 and served as the Advocate General of Himachal Pradesh between 1998 and 2003. He became a judge in 2007 and served as Acting Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh between April 2017 and October 2018.
