Patna: In view of the growing cases of Coronavirus across the country, the Nitish government on Friday announced its decision to shut down all schools, colleges, and coaching institutes in Bihar till March 31.

The decision was taken following a high-level meeting of the senior officials with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday.

Along with all institutions of learning, the government has also shut down public parks, cinema halls and Patna Zoo till March 31, Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar said.

Final exams for the CBSE and ICSE, however, will go on as scheduled, he said.

Along with the above, the administration has also canceled the pre-scheduled Bihar Day celebration in Patna and all sports and cultural meetings.

"During this period, public places like Sri Krishna Memorial Hall and Gyan Bhawan will also remain off limit for social events," he said adding while the schools will remain closed in Bihar, teachers will still have to come to their respective schools.

The Chief Secretary said that though not a single Coronavirus test has come out positive in Bihar, the government is taking this proactive action to shut down schools, colleges and other public places after cases of Coronavirus, now declared pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), were reported from the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh where at least ten persons have been confirmed positive of the disease.
