Patna: A crippled and wounded Janata Dal – U leader Nitish Kumar, on the eve of his record seventh stint for the Chief Minister’s chair in Bihar, said in Patna on Sunday that he had no intention of occupying the seat again but accepted the position only because of mounting pressure from the top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and some leaders from his own party.

Kumar uttered the above words during a meeting with the NDA legislators meeting in the presence of Union Defense Minister and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh.

“I wanted some BJP leader to become the new Chief Minister of Bihar but upon the insistence of the senior BJP leaders and other leaders of the NDA, I accepted the position of the Chief Minister of Bihar,” he said adding the people of Bihar had entrusted him to do good things for the state and he pledged to work even harder than ever before.

“It’s a huge responsibility but I have always been committed to the development of Bihar. We have done tremendous work in the last 15 years but obviously we did not live up to the expectation of the those who voted us into power. I intend to do an introspection to see where did we make mistakes and work even harder so we don’t repeat them in future,” he said.

Kumar is poised to take the oath of the office at Raj Bhawan on Monday for the record seventh time with two new Deputy Chief Ministers by his side – both rather unknown BJP faces – Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi. While the former represents the Vaishya community the latter belongs to the Nonia caste.

Meanwhile, incumbent Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi is expected to be sent to Delhi on some special assignment.
